For those wondering when the highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS will hit store shelves, keep September 29 open on your Super Mario Brothers desk calendar. That’s the day Nintendo says they’ll reveal the official release date for the 3-D handheld.
It appears Nintendo might have another instant hit on the horizon. All those who managed to get their hands on a 3DS at E3 have said that the device was overwhelmingly impressive.
Nintendo says that as of March 2010, they had sold about 107 million DS units. Demand has tapered off, though. According to consumer research group NPD, sales of the DS in May fell 33%.
Although there’s been no word on pricing yet, don't expect it to cost more than $249 USD. Despite the impressive hardware powering the 3DS, a Nintendo handheld has never really crossed that threshold.
